Park City Condo at Christmas 2008
Posted: Wed August 20, 2008 10:50 PM UTC
I'm looking for a condo in Park City for Christmas '08 (12/24 - 1/1). Any suggestions on when to book for the best deals? We are interested in a nice place with kitchen that sleeps 5 in beds (2bedroom+loft or 3 bedroom) for $500 or less per night and prefer to be within walking distance of lifts. Right now it looks like a LOT of availability! Any recommendations out there? Any suggestions for deals?

Monument Valley State Park One more question: Monument Valley to Bryce
Posted: Sat August 9, 2008 10:32 PM UTC
Thanks for your quick answers, that's very helpful. It seems that I will be able to fit in Monument Valley! I've one more question: going from Monument Valley to Bryce, do I pass by Page/Lake Powell, or is it better to take a different route? Thanks again for your advice!

Monument Valley State Park Travel time and distance to Monument Valley?
Posted: Sat August 9, 2008 02:45 PM UTC
Hi, me and my friend will do a roadtrip from 20 september - 5 october. Our plan is to drive from Los Angeles - Grand Canyon (South Rim) - Bryce Canyon - Zion - Las Vegas - Death Valley - Seqouia/Kings Canyon - Yosemite (?) - San Francisco - LA. We would really like to visit Monument Valley, but have doubts if it is feasible.

Can anyone tell me wat the travel time + distance is from Grand Canyon (South Rim-Tusayan) to Monument Valley? And from Monument Valley to Bryce Canyon? Would it be best to plan an overnight stop in Page? And...if I have to choose between Monument Valley or Antelope Canyon/Lake Tahoe, which one is more interesting? Thanks for your help!

Utah Zion and Bryce from Las Vegas
Posted: Thu July 17, 2008 10:42 PM UTC
Hi:

I'm wondering if this is a reasonable and doable trip and safe (for female doing this trip alone)

1) Leave Vegas (staying on strip) and pick up car at Vegas airport on Thursday around 2p.m.
2) Drive to Zion and get there by 4:30pm(Thursday).
3) Stay overnight in Zion and explore all day Friday.
4) Leave Zion for Bryce by 7:00am (Saturday).
5) Arrive Bryce around 9:30am (Saturday).
6) Explore Bryce and leave by 4pm (Saturday) to catch 11:59pm flight (Saturday) in Las Vegas.

Is this a doable trip? Ideally I would like to get out of the car and do a couple of hikes/other activities in both Zion and Bryce.

Thanks in advance for the input!

Park City restaurant deals
Posted: Sun June 22, 2008 04:24 PM UTC
We got a GREAT deal on a place to stay in Park City this summer. We cannot spend a lot to eat though so we are looking for the best restaurant deals. good restaurants cheap or places where you can get gift certificates for a deal. In St. louis one of our radio stations posts restaurant gift certificates for half price and then they sell a certain amount for the deal price. Does anyone know of anything like that for restaurants tht aren't too pricey to begin with? THANKS (anything in Salt Lake would be interesting for us too.) I have heard that PC is pricey. Also what else shouldn't we miss while there?

Bryce Canyon National Park Tours from Las Vegas?
Posted: Mon May 19, 2008 09:04 PM UTC
We will be in Vegas June 8-11 and plan to go to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park via one of the tours from Vegas. We found two: Incredible Adventures and All Las Vegas Tours. They are similar -- any suggestions or experience with either of these full day tours or others to both sites? We're not looking to hike excessively, mostly just take in the sites and shoot lots of photos.
Thanks very much.

Park City Summering in Park City with the family?
Posted: Fri March 14, 2008 04:02 AM UTC
Hello all!

I need some advice from those of you who live in or frequent the mountain time zone in general and Park City Utah in particular. I travel quite a bit and work out of my home in the Midwest. It recently dawned on me that I could work out of anywhere from Ohio to Utah and it would make no difference as long as I was w/in 30-40 minutes of a major airport, had Sprint cellphone service and a high speed internet connection.

So I have decided to take my wife and our two elementary school aged children and "relocate" for the month of July. We talked about it and would like to go somewhere that is not too hot, has many activities including hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, etc. local. We have wanted to take a trip out west and I think a month based in someplace like Park City is the perfect answer. We can take a couple of long weekends and go to Arches and Yellowstone, visit Sundance and downtown Park City. PC seems to have everything I need.

So my questions are:

1. Is Park City a good choice for this? I will need to travel for business to MN, Chicago and Omaha and probably others during the trip so proximity to a major airport is important. We also want to go someplace where there is a lot to do!
2. We want to rent a 2+ or 3 bedroom condo (we need a master bedroom, kids bedroom and a temporary office) for the month of July. It needs to be fairly nice, have a pool, nearby bike trails and a central location or easy bus access. Air conditioning would be very good. I have seen ads online for Town Pointe, Red Pine (Canyons), Prospector Square, All Seasons, Park Meadows and Bear Hollow. Which would be best? Why? Any other suggestions?

Finally, I will be in PC next Friday afternoon and Saturday (March 21 and 22) and would like to look at a couple of places.

While this is obviously not ski related, I know there are a lot of PC regulars who's input will be very valuable to me and my family. We are looking forward to a great trip and a whole month to experience a new part of the country!

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and help!

Utah Bryce Canyon National Park
Posted: Sat March 8, 2008 10:23 AM UTC
During our Arizona/Utah trip we do have one full day to visit Bryce Canyon National Park. I found already a lot of information (perhaps too much) about this park and am a little bit confused what to do/see. Our main interests are some hiking/walking (for a couple of hours), perhaps biking, enjoying the scenery.

What would you 'must do's' be during a full day (we do have a rental car available) in Bryce Canyon ??
Any hidden gems ??
Any 'don't do's' ??

Utah Caineville Badlands
Posted: Fri March 7, 2008 09:20 AM UTC
Saw some fantastic pictures of the Caineville Badlands and tried to find more specific information. VT offers just three 'hits' (not very informative) and the Rough Guide to Southwest USA hasn't any info at all. Googling for 'caineville badlands' offers some information, but I still miss something.

- where to find these badlands exactly (coming from Hanksville) ??
- any website with a map af the Caineville Badlands ??
- accessible on foot ??

Utah Visiting Crystal Geyser
Posted: Sun March 2, 2008 07:42 PM UTC
Crystal Geyser is acessible from Green River (town) through a 'trail', marked on a map on the internet as a 'graded road'.

What does this mean ??
Would this road/trail be doable by a 'normal' car (no 4 WD/SUV) ??

I'll be bringing 4 avid teenaged skiers to SLC in March. They are all really good skier/snowboarders. We want to buy the Super Pass but don't know which of the ski areas close to Salt lake City are the best. Any suggestions?? Also, we're staying at the Crystal Inn at West Valley Center- any comments?? Thanks

Bonneville Salt Flats State Park Visiting the Salt Flats at other times?
Posted: Mon February 18, 2008 06:16 AM UTC
I'm aware that during "Speed Week" and related racing events, the Salt Flats
are accessible by spectators. Since it's a state park, are people allowed
to go onto the salt at other times (with their cars, perhaps) just to see it?
I'm not talking about racing or driving fast. I just don't know what the laws are. For many years, I've wanted to see the Salt Flats--to walk on it, and examine the
surface. And yes, I would definitely get my car washed soon thereafter.
Thanks for any info, suggestions, or references anyone can provide.

Utah Comments/recommendations about our ‘Grand Circle’trip
Posted: Fri February 15, 2008 03:56 PM UTC
We have already booked our tickets from A’dam to Phoenix (Arizona) for a visit in June to the National Parks in Arizona and Utah. We are planning to follow (more or less) the so called ‘Grand Circle’ with most probably stays in (or around):
Phoenix > Holbrook > Chinle > Kayenta > Moab (3 nights) > Torrey (2 nights) > Bryce Canyon (2 nights) > Springdale > Kanab > Grand Canyon (2 nights) > Sedona > Phoenix.

I have/will read all VT TravelGuides about these destinations, but I have already some questions:
- any comments on our itinerary ?
- any recommendation for (special/nice) lodgings ?
- any recommendations for hidden gems/off the beaten path sights along the route or in the parks ?
- any recommendations for walks/hikes ?

Your answers are most welcome.

Utah Where should I overnight for Las Vegas -> Zion -> Bryce -> Page -> onwards ?
Posted: Tue February 12, 2008 04:55 AM UTC
I'm planning a trip for the last week of March, travelling from Las Vegas in a big loop round the Grand Canyon, and ending up in Phoenix, as follows:

Time is tight, so I'm unfortunately not able to stay long in each location

Day 1: Leave Vegas in morning; Drive to Zion National Park; Drive onwards
Day 2: Bryce National Park; Drive onwards
Day 3: Page area; side-trip for sunset in Monument Valley; Drive to overnight somewhere like Tuba City
Day 4: Grand Canyon (south rim); overnight in Flagstaff
Day 5: Drive to Sedona; Red Rock country; drive to Phoenix, fly out that evening

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should stay overnight? In particular, where should I overnight on days 1 & 2?

Neither of us are experienced mountain drivers. How drivable are the roads after sunset? Does night occur suddenly? Or is there an extended twilight?

Any other tips? Do I need an SUV? (Neither of us has driven one before...) What's the best way to pick up lunch for these national parks?

I am planning to visit the Bryce and the Grand Canyon in 2 weeks (US 89 from Bryce to Grand Canyon via Kanab). Does anyone know how are the road conditions there? Is it a safe trip for this period of the year? How much time should I plan for it?

Thanks

Maybe...

1 - Bryce Canyon
2 - Arches
3 - Zion
4 - Canyonlands
5 - Capitol Reef

Thank you

Zion National Park Hiking the Narrows Trial in Mid-April
Posted: Wed December 12, 2007 12:40 AM UTC
We are going to be hiking in Zion around the 23rd of April. Will we be able to hike in the Narrows trail? Or will the water be too cold? When I tried to hike it in November a few years ago, we only made it about 1/2 mile before freezing our feet? Thanks for any advice.
